Interesting facts about this piece: - Schubert, who was Beethoven’s number 1 fan, wrote a strikingly similar piece (which is the last piece I uploaded on here!). The main theme has the same tempo, key, chord progressions, voicing and pitch as the first mvmt theme played here. Take a listen to both pieces to hear the similarity. - Chopin, one of Beethoven’s contemporaries, loved this sonata, and it is the only Beethoven piece he regularly performed. - The third movement of this piece is a famous Funeral March (in 7 flats!!!). This was the only orchestral arrangement of a Sonata that Beethoven wrote, as was played at his own funeral in 1827. It was also part of our late Queen’s funeral processional music. To me, knowing about the pieces makes them more interesting and accessible. Hopefully playing them naked also helps that for you too 😜 Lastly, I know my piano is out of tune. I’m saving up to get it tuned, so anything towards that would be much appreciated 😍 Xx Nat
