It’s tied in with the use of body stockings (which I’ve covered in a previous post) but, being made of superior fabrics it wasn’t exactly accessible to your average woman. It wasn’t until the 20th century when lingerie began to be mass produced that its popularity soared, and further became associated with the burlesque movement and you see them in bold colors like this one. 💜
